Understanding My Feelings When I Feel Lonely

Step 1: Recognizing My Feelings

  • Sometimes, I am with other people, but I still feel lonely. This is okay.

  • I can try to notice when I feel this way. I will try to say to myself, "I feel lonely right now.


Step 2: Understanding Others

  • Other people might not know I feel lonely. They might be busy or thinking about other things.

  • I can remember that they still care about me, even if they don’t notice right away.


Step 3: Using My Calming Strategies

  • When I feel lonely, I can use my calming strategies. I can take deep breaths or think about my favorite activity.

  • I will try to focus on my breathing: in through my nose, out through my mouth.


Step 4: Reaching Out to Others

  • If I want to, I can try to talk to someone. I can say, "Can we play together?" or "Can I join you?"

  • I will try to use my words to let others know I want to be with them.


Step 5: Finding Comfort in My Interests

  • If I still feel lonely, I can do something I enjoy, like drawing or reading.

  • I can try to focus on my favorite activity to feel better.


Conclusion: Feeling Better Together

  • It’s okay to feel lonely sometimes, even when I am with others. I can use my calming strategies and reach out to friends.

  • I will try to remember that I am not alone, and I can find ways to feel better. I am doing a great job learning to manage my feelings!
